The signature of the star has been asked twice, and until a week before the Frankfurt Motor Show (from 17 to 27 September) has not provided the information and official photographs of its new jewel: the AMG SLS “Gull-wing . With this new supercar that will go on sale in spring 2010, Mercedes continues its long history of legendary models. The “family SL” was born in 1954 and, after a great track record of success in recent years has given true collector’s items, such as recent SLR SLR McLaren and Stirling Moss.

With the new SLS recovers the concept of “Gull-wing” that surprised with the SL300 in the 50s. The peculiar and striking door opening system is the most remarkable, but its long hood and short rear, its retractable spoiler or wide radiator grille with the huge star chairing the front, also characterized. In the compartment Mercedes claims that have been inspired by the aeronautics, so that design controls as if an airplane cockpit concerned.

The body of the new SLS is constructed of aluminum, like the chassis, enabling content total weight of 1,620 kilos. The center of gravity is very low and almost perfect weight distribution (47% to the front axle and 53% rear), so that the behavior of this meteorite promises to be extremely fun and effective. Obviously shoes goes well, and a good drive back is “more rubber” on the rear axle in the front: 265/35 R19 front and 295/30 R20 rear.

But to the engine, of course signed by AMG. This is a “heart” V8 naturally aspirated, 6.3-liter engine and 571 horsepower, which is attached to a modern gearbox DTC AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual clutch. The benefits speak for themselves, and with its 317 km / h 3.8 seconds in the 0 to 100 km / h is one of the racers to beat, even without registering record numbers. When approaching the date of marketing we will unravel its price and position it correctly over its nearest rivals. Meanwhile, we can admire this work of art reminiscent of the past.
